[ Maruki can't help but laugh as he looks through the contents of the tote – but it's a soft, appreciative sort of thing. Vil's preoccupation with his physical appearance bothers him less now that he knows it comes from a good place... And frankly, now that he knows Vil had nothing to do with The Webby Situation. That has been a larger thorn in his side than he's ever likely to admit.
The clothes are beautifully made – unlike anything he's ever had before. He may not be particularly vain, or even slightly fastidious about his appearance, but Maruki appreciates the hard work and careful creativity that goes into such craftsmanship. He's admiring one of the shirts when he hears Vil speak about his magic and looks up again.
It's a heartwarming sight, seeing him reunited with the tome clasped against his chest. It must be similar to how he felt the first night Azathoth returned to him. Having powers returned, yes, but also having a true reminder of home – like seeing an old friend you'd missed so very much.
Maruki watches with open fascination and delight as the book floats before him and then grins at Vil, eyebrows raised. ]
Very cool, Vil-kun.
[ It's genuine. Maruki has seen a lot in Somnius thus far, but nothing like this – real Magic magic, as if from a movie about witches and wizards.
He settles the tote down onto the armchair he uses during his sessions, trades it for the box he brought over for this specific purpose. It's nondescript, an old apple box from one of the stands in the market that a gelfling kindly let him have. Inside he's already begun fashioning dividers to turn it into some sad semblance of a filing cabinet. The things one settles for in a medieval rural shithole. ]
If you wouldn't mind... This is what I want to use for my patient files. I'd like to be the only one able to open it and read the contents. If you can think of any other way to fortify that magic, please, by all means– you're the expert here. I trust your judgment.
[He thinks over his wording very carefully, his curses were powerful. Enough do that he could not undo them once set. There always needed to be a way to break them, just in case.
Once he settled on the semantics, he held a hand over the box.]
I will lose nothing I fear nothing The shining crown is for me Fairest One of All
This box shall only open by Maruki’s hand, and all who touch it with ill intent will find themselves unay to move until the following sunrise, or they are given permission to leave by Maruki.
[There was a sparkling shimmer before the box briefly flickered with a faint light as its properties changed.
Seeing the basic work he turned to Maruki.]
Does this suffice? I can still make the contents illegible to everyone but you, but in the case that one of your patients will want access to their records, I realized last minute that would cause unnecessary complications for you.
[And seeing any potential thieves stuck frozen in discomfort was a petty delight. The real gift right there.]
[ Maruki watches, fascination turning to true awe as the curse settles over the box.
He's seen a lot. He can do a lot. But he can't do something like that.
It's very, very cool. ]
Ah... No, that's a good point. I've also entered into a partnership with the medical facility Bakugou-kun runs, so if I ever need to refer a patient to him, it would be helpful to be able to supply their file. Good thinking, Vil-kun.
[ And then a thoughtful pause. Look, Maruki's a petty man too. The real gift hasn't escaped his notice at all. ]
And being trapped would be an appropriate comeuppance for anyone foolish enough to try to break in.
[ He huffs out a little laugh of relief and runs his hands over the box, looking from it to Vil. ]
I can't thank you enough. Seriously. This has been keeping me up at night for a while now.
[ It feels out of the question that he might ask for more. He doesn't even know what else he would ask for, with such seemingly limitless power as what Vil possesses. ]
[He hummed thoughtfully, paying no mind to the gratitude for now. Maruki may not have been able to think of more to ask for, but Vil has more to offer.]
I could offer a sound blocking blessing that activates once the door is closed- as an apology for Webby’s… earlier snooping.
[And if he’s honest, possible future snooping. He knows her. He’s FAIRLY certain he got through to her during their little talk, but she was nothing if not completely unpredictable.]
But that admittedly comes with the risk that if something were to go wrong, no one outside would hear the commotion.
[Such were things that needed to be considered with these sorts of spells.]
I could also potentially place a similar enchantment on the office itself that I did on your file box. That anyone entering with intent to harm anything within would be frozen in place.
My cottage has a similar curse. It’s done well to keep most ill tempered fiends from causing too much damage- provided they have enough sentience to have intent in the first place.
[So the recent misbehaving plants had been something of a headache.]
[ Vil's careful consideration of each curse or blessing's applications and drawbacks really is a salve for Maruki's analytical mind. Impossible to overthink when Vil is already doing it for him. But there are other considerations, of course. ]
That sounds good on the surface, but you might be surprised how many of my patients have... Let's call them anger issues!
[ Not even patients. Friends who visit as well. Maki. ]
I can easily see such a curse backfiring if they come in looking for a fight, whether it's against me or an inanimate object. I'd hate for that to happen.
[ He runs a hand over his stubbled jaw as he looks around the office, considering it, then back to Vil after a long moment. ]
What about something as simple as a curse to only allow visitors through the door that I usher in personally? Unlike the records that might be needed by others one day, there's no need for anyone to ever enter here without my presence.
[ ... well. ]
Ah, but I might want an exception or two, for my most trusted companions here, just in case of emergencies. I don't know if that's possible.
