[ Finishing up with another shrimp, Lyney grabbed another to start peeling it when Vil's words set in. He'd never once stopped to think about such a thing, as it had never really been much of an issue or something he really had a problem with in the past.

Maybe it was just because he always had his darling sister by his side, so little mattered to him in terms of what it was he did to spend his downtime.

He didn't look up yet, continuing his monotonous task but still listening to what his housemate - and for now, date - had to say. Burning himself out? That was impossible. To have 'down time' meant he'd have to be alone with his thoughts properly, to stop moving and let himself process the things that he was probably bottling up. That was an almost terrifying thought in itself, a soft and breathless laugh escaping him for a second. ]

You make it sound so simple. Those two things are perhaps the only things i've ever known, and it's never really been an issue before.

[ It felt strange to even admit that much, and for a second? He wondered if a hint of his real self leaked through in that moment.

Another shrimp was peeled. Then another.

Lyney reached for another one just to find they'd all been peeled and Vil had continued. There was nothing to distract him with and they cut deep once they sunk in, feeling as if they seared him to the bone with white-hot fire but he just inhaled a sharp breath and shook his head with fingers curling against the countertop. ]

I can't. That's not how I was raised. Father expects us to act a certain way and to do otherwise would... [ He caught himself sharply, briskly taking the plate of peeled shrimp over to Vil before moving over to go strain the pasta without another second wasted. ] It's not important here, is it?

[ The light, airy way he added that last part on didn't feel like his usual muster and he hated it. He was cutting his hands on the mask he was putting back into place, mind reeling in a way he really didn't at all like.

No. This wasn't good. He had to keep his composure here. Some part of him wanted to give in, but he pushed that down swiftly. ]
