[Vil heaves a sigh, oh what a tale to have to tell, but tell it he will.]
While it's not my story to tell, I suppose enough of us know that it'll get around eventually anyway.
[He'd take a sip from his tea before beginning.]
Ortho- the one we know at school was originally built to replace a younger sibling Idia had lost. I don't know the fine details, but apparently the original Ortho had to be banished into Tartarus- where STYX keep a large collection of phantoms frozen.
However, due to the shroud curse he... somehow still remained lucid to a degree, and he reached out to the Ortho we know somehow. Again, I'm not aware of the details, but I would suspect Idia joined them both willingly, and subsequently overblotted. They all schemed to release all the phantoms in Tartarus as some way of starting the world over and making things equal for phantoms and people.
Obviously it was a boneheaded scheme that myself and the other housewardens would have been deeply inconvenienced by it to say the least, and being the only capable mages in the place we took action.
It all ended with a confrontation with Idia and the orginal Ortho... who, I suspect due to his unique constitution with the shroud curse, had grafted hundred of phantoms to himself. He was larger than this entire building, and that's being generous. Well after landing the final blow, Idia took a tumble into Ortho and I leapt in after him- Ortho had hacked STYX's stystem to thaw all the other phantoms out, you see, and only another Shroud could override it. Grim had also somehow gotten lost in Ortho so I had to grab them both. I'm sure you remember my appearance upon returning to school- that was the consequence of my actions.
In the end, our Ortho gained something from the original, which is why he became more animated after the incident. Ortho referred to it as a "soul" and he would know better than anyone.
But that's the story- as it relates to Idia at least.
